What is best for my career - cloud computing, big data, or DevOps?

It really all depends on the skills you have right now, your desire to learn and your work ethic in general. For example, I know people who worked as system administrators and decided to transition to DevOps engineers. However, they had to learn new things such as a new programming language, Amazon Web Services (AWS), PuppetDB and etc.

about making this transition and it stresses having the work ethic and desire to constantly perfect your current skills and willingness to learn new ones.

Both Big Data and DevOps are rapidly developing and expanding fields and therefore the demand for both DevOps and Big Data engineers will be very high. Also, it is important to understand that cloud technology is in demand for both DevOps and Big Data. Currently, many companies are striving to make the transition from legacy servers to the cloud since it is easier and cheaper to maintain, and ensures high scalability of your business.

If you are a data enthusiast and you love taking mass amounts of data and making sense out of it, I would recommend going into Big Data. If you enjoy the software creation process and you enjoy creating reliable software at rapid speed and you want to help others accomplish this, then I would recommend DevOps. And once again, I would like to stress that there is no need to take cloud computing out of the equation, because both DevOps and Big Data incorporate within themselves a large part of cloud computing.
