Kashmir LIVE: BJP Demands Apology from Rahul, Says Pakistan Used His J&K Comments as Evidence in UN

Kashmir LIVE: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his comments on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir after his failed attempt to visit the Valley on August 24. Gandhi's remarks in the wake of the visit were widely reported in the Pakistani media. Gandhi had last week said that he got a taste of the current "draconian administration" in Jammu and Kashmir when he and other opposition leaders were barred from leaving the Srinagar airport and sent back to Delhi. Gandhi was also mentioned in a letter sent by Pakistan's Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari on Monday to bolster Islamabad’s stand at the United Nations. The letter also quotes Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad questioning the restrictions in Kashmir.

"The Congress has embarrassed the nation," said Javadekar on Wednesday. "Where did Rahul Gandhi get this information from? Kashmir is normal. Rahul Gandhi's comment is being used by Pakistan."

flag of Jammu and Kashmir

The flag of Jammu and Kashmir is the official flag of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India. It consists of a deep red field, representing labour, charged with a plough to represent agriculture. Three stripes are found on the hoist side and represent the three regions of the state: JammuKashmir and Ladakh.[1]
Jammu and Kashmir is 'permitted' to fly its own 'state' flag along with the national flag.[2] Jammu and Kashmir also has a separate constitution which works under Article 370 of the Constitution of India. This is due to the state's special status under the Indian Constitution.[3]

History

The flag has its origin in events that took place on 13 July 1931 in Srinagar. During a demonstration against the Dogra rulers, the police opened fire and 21 people were killed. The blood-tainted shirt of one of the victims was then hoisted by the crowd as the new flag of Kashmir. 13 July is known as Martyrs' Day and is an official holiday in Jammu and Kashmir.[4]
On 11 July 1939, the flag was adopted by the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, a political party. Then on 7 June 1952, a resolution was passed by the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, making it the official flag of the State. Meanwhile, according to the Delhi Agreement between Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah, the national flag has the same status in Jammu and Kashmir as in the rest of India.[4]

Description

Article 144 states that flag of the state shall be rectangular 3:2 format. Its color is red, which originally represented the blood of the martyrs of the 13 July 1931 demonstration, but later came to symbolise workers and labourers. In the middle, a white plough further symbolises the peasants. Next to the staff, three vertical white stripes represent the three regions of JammuKashmir and Ladakh.[4]

2015 controversy[edit]

The Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir makes it mandatory to hoist the state flag alongside the national flag at all times.[2] However, in 2015, the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party members in the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly refused to hoist the state flag in their offices. BJP Ministers did not hoist the State flag either, as they consider that it has no importance.[2]
The government led by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed then issued a circular making it compulsory to hoist the state flag along with the national flag, stating that "The state flag has the same sanctity and position as the Union flag has under the Indian Constitution and other statutory provisions." However, within 20 hours, the state government withdrew this circular.[2][5][6] On withdrawal of the circular, the Jammu & Kashmir BJP spokesperson said, "“Our leaders cannot have any other flag on their vehicles besides the Tricolour. We welcome the withdrawal of the circular."[2]
In December 2015, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court ordered the government of the state to hoist the state flag along with national flag on official buildings and vehicles of constitutional authorities.[7] However, this decision was contested by the Bharatiya Janata Party and in January 2016 Jammu and Kashmir High Court stayed their decision of hoisting state flag. Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Nirmal Kumar Singh said that no flag could be hoisted at an equal level of the national flag of India. Other parties alleged that the BJP is trying to impose its nationalist agenda on a state with special status.[8] Despite the stance of the BJP, ministers of its coalition partner PDP continue to use the state flag alongside the national flag in official meetings. Youth wing of National Conference also launched a campaign encouraging people to use the state flag as the profile image on their social media accounts saying that "the State flag of J&K doesn't undermine or take away the protocol or status of the National Flag and is clearly provided for in our constitution.

Apple unveils slew of software upgrades - plus new all-powerful Mac Pro - at WWDC in California

iTunes is gone. But don't worry; it lives on - in more places.
Apple on Monday unveiled, as widely expected, a major change in the way its users interact in its ecosystem, shelving the iconic software platform in place of other apps that are more user-specific at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Jose, California.
Replacing iTunes will be three apps with dedicated purposes: Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV.
And as their names imply, the apps will handle specific categories.
And how will you sync your iPhone with iTunes gone? Pretty simple: After plugging your device into a Mac, it will show up in Finder.
Software updates, as always, were featured throughout the almost two-and-a-half-hour showpiece.
"We've been inspired by millions of developers worldwide," CEO Tim Cook said in his opening remarks. "You make dreams come true in the apps you create, making the world a better place."
iOS 13
Apple's mobile operating system received another huge makeover, with privacy and security front and centre.
iOS 13 is also designed to reduce download file sizes by 50 per cent and updates by 60 per cent. Apps are pegged to launch twice as fast and face unlock will also be 30 per cent quicker.
For the AirPods, Apple's wireless headsets, a feature called Announce Messages was unveiled, in which Siri can read incoming messages to the user, then allowing the person to instantly respond by just speaking.
But probably the most important updates to iOS 13 are the security and privacy features. Apple introduced 'Sign in with Apple': When a site or app asks a user to sign in, instead of that user's e-mail address, iOS 13 will use Face ID and generate a random e-mail address that is secure. The idea behind this is to eliminate any risk of being tracked and submitting personal information.
Apple also announced secure video for HomeKit, which records videos and are safely stored into iCloud.
iPadOS
In a bit of a surprise, Apple unveiled iPadOS, specifically designed for its tablet device. Features include iCloud drive folder sharing, the ability to plug in and read USB drives and memory cards, and import photos from camera directly to certain apps. Desktop-class browsing has also been added to Safari for the iPad.
The Apple Pencil, meanwhile, already with an industry-leading latency of 20ms, was much improved: Its next version will come with 9ms.
Mac Pro
And a special but expected hardware appearance: Apple upped the ante in the desktop wars with the all-new Mac Pro, its latest desktop that it says is the most powerful in the market.
The Mac Pro can house a 28-core Intel Xeon processor and up to 1.5TB of memory. Apple also brought back PCIe expansion back to the Mac on the new machine.
A key component of the Mac Pro is the so-called Afterburner, a hardware accelerator card that can process six billion pixels per second.
The new desktop is aimed at professional users looking for an even more powerful device that caters to professions demanding powerful computing capabilities. Developers who have already signed up include Adobe, Pixar, Unity and Unreal Engine. It starts at $5,999, or roughly Dh22,000.
The Mac Pro's sold-separately, display, the Pro Display XDR, an enhanced version of high dynamic range technology. It starts at $4,999, or approximately Dh18,000.
macOS Catalina
The new version of Apple's desktop system will no longer use iTunes, being replaced by the aforementioned apps.
A key feature on it is Voice Control, allowing a user to issue commands by just speaking. It will also be available on iOS.
A new, more secure way to locate Macs called Find My was also unveiled, which uses a secure Bluetooth beacon released from a lost or stolen Mac that is transmitted to other Apple devices to help identify its location.
watchOS 6
Apple unveiled the latest upcoming version of its operating system for the Apple Watch, which, as expected, was designed to make the wearable more independent from the iPhone.
More Apple apps will also be added, including audio books, voice memos and calculator - which even comes with a tip calculator and bill splitter for those times dining out with friends.
The App Store too will also be included on watchOS 6. Content can be search via dictation or by scribbling, and purchases can even be made directly on the Watch.
In health, a new activity trends feature will be introduced, which compares nine metrics in the past 60 days to 365 days. A new cycle tracker for women was also introduced.

Pakistan sees attack plot, India calls it preposterous

Pakistan sees attack plot, India calls it preposterous

(AFP)

Pakistan had earlier claimed that India is planning a new attack.

India on Sunday rejected as "irresponsible and preposterous" Pakistan's statement that New Delhi will attack it again and accused Islamabad of trying to whip up war hysteria in the region.
"India rejects the irresponsible and preposterous statement by the foreign minister of Pakistan with a clear objective of whip-ping up war hysteria in the region," a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said.
Earlier, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said India was planning to attack Pakistan after staging a "mishap" in J&K and this could happen between April 16 and 20.
Talking to reporters in Multan, Qureshi called on the international community to reprimand India for its irresponsible conduct.
He said the ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council in Islamabad had been informed about "the plan" two days ago.
"We have reliable intelligence that India has made a new scheme and the planning is underway and there are chances of another aggression against Pakistan and according to our information this action can take place between April 16 and 20," he said.
"I am saying it with responsibility and I have a responsible position, I know each word I say would make headlines in the international press," he said, stressing the reliability of his claim.
He did not elaborate on what evidence Pakistan had or how he could be so specific with the timing, but he said Prime Minister Imran Khan had agreed to share the information with the country.
"A new mishap could be staged in Indian-occupied Kashmir, just like (the) Pulwama. And its purpose will be to justify their (India's) offensive against Pakistan and to increase diplomatic pressure against Islamabad."
"If such a thing (action by India) happens, you can imagine the impact of the occurrence on the peace and stability of the region," the foreign minister warned.
Qureshi said that he had consulted with Prime Minister Imran Khan and decided to make public the development in order to expose the Indian designs.
Qureshi also criticised the global community for remaining silent over Indian aggression against Pakistan on February 26.
He said that international powers did not reprimand India despite blatant violation of international laws on the part of India due to geopolitics.
"The international community, given the sensitivity of this flashpoint, should not remain silent," the foreign minister stated, adding that the global community should and would have to play their role in this regard.

Seven Air Force officers and six air warriors were on board the Antonov An-32.

An Indian Air Force transport aircraft with 13 personnel on board has gone missing in Arunachal Pradesh after it took-off from Assam's Jorhat on Monday afternoon.
The aircraft took off from Jorhat at 12.25 pm and was headed for Menchuka Advance Landing Ground (ALG) in Arunachal Pradesh. The last contact between the aircraft and ground agencies took place at 1 pm. Seven Air Force officers and six air warriors were on board the Antonov An-32.
Indian Air Force has deployed all available resources, including Sukhoi-30 combat aircraft and C-130 Special Operations aircraft, on a search mission for locating the missing aircraft.
The IAF has also launched ground troops for search operations.
The Soviet-era aircraft was inducted into the Air Force in the 1980s and has been undergoing upgrades. The missing plane is not part of the upgraded An-32 fleet of the Air Force.
Three years ago, on July 22, 2016, an An-32 aircraft of the IAF had gone missing in the air with 29 people on board. The aircraft was traveling from Chennai to Port-Blair in Andaman and Nicobar when it went missing over the Bay of Bengal.

Root, Buttler tons in vain as hosts fail in record World Cup chase

Pakistan beat England by 14 runs at Trent Bridge on Monday as the World Cup's first centuries from Joe Root and Jos Buttler were not enough to help the hosts and pre-tournament favourites overhaul the huge target of 349 set for them.
England had won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat, banking on the pace of fast bowlers Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer for early wickets and no doubt hoping to recreate the way the West Indies skittled Pakistan out for 105 on Friday.
Instead, the visitors put that woeful performance behind them and racked up 348 runs for eight wickets, delighting their cheering fans in the stands with 29 fours and six sixes.
Mohammad Hafeez was his side's top scorer with 84 off 62 balls, while Babar Azam made 63 and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed belted a quickfire 55.
"Everyone was believing we could do this. We were playing good cricket but not winning crucial stages of the game. Everyone chipped in today and gave everything which was required to win the game," Hafeez told the BBC.
"It was a total team effort. It is a very happy dressing room."
Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq delighted their vocal supporters by belting a string of boundaries off Archer and Woakes in an opening partnership of 82.
England spinner Moeen Ali finally broke up the pair, getting Fakhar stumped on 36 on his way to a three-wicket haul, while Woakes grabbed three more and also took four catches on a day when England were otherwise uncharacteristically ragged in the field.
Babar and Mohammad Hafeez steadied the ship for Pakistan with a partnership of 88 runs as the visitors set England a larger score than any side had ever chased down in the history of the competition. The best successful World Cup run chase to date came in 2011 when Ireland made 329 against England.
In reply, England steadily lost the wickets of their top-order batsmen Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes to leave the side on 118 for four and give Root and Buttler a mountain to climb.
The two did their best, each eventually reaching three figures. Root hit 10 fours and one six on his way to 107 before scooping an easy catch off Khan to Hafeez at third man.
Buttler smashed a four to notch up his own hundred a few overs later, only to fall to the very next ball.
As the balls-remaining count dwindled, Moeen and Woakes swung valiantly at everything they could. But after they were both caught out in successive balls, Mark Wood and Adil Rashid were left stranded at the crease as the target slipped beyond their reach.

Lightning-fast iOS 13, powerful Mac Pro

Apple unveils lightning-fast iOS 13, powerful Mac Pro

iOS 13 comes with much-anticipated 'Dark Mode', advanced photo and camera features.

In a fresh attempt to make its devices faster and agile like never before, the Cupertino-based iPhone maker has unveiled iOS 13 with features like Dark Mode and Apple sign-in, a sturdy Mac Pro desktop for creative professionals and a brand new iPadOS among several features that would bring personalised experiences to its millions of users.

The powerful iOS 13 unlocks the Apple device with Face ID 30 per cent faster, reduces app download sizes by up to 50 per cent, makes app updates over 60 per cent smaller and results in apps launching up to twice as fast.

"Last year, we delivered iOS 12 which is full of features from dynamic new AR experiences to amazing screen time and faster performance. iOS 12 has the highest customer satisfaction -- an incredible 97 per cent -- in the industry. Nearly 85 per cent of iOS customers are on the latest release," Apple CEO Tim Cook told a packed house at the San Jose convention centre here on Monday during the company's annual flagship developers' conference "WWDC 2019".

"In fact, iOS 12 has been installed on more systems than any version of iOS ever. That is in stark contrast to the latest offerings from those other guys like Android 9 which was released before iOS. Well, it saw only 10 per cent adoption," Cook told more than 5,000 coders and developers from 86 countries.

iOS 13 comes with much-anticipated "Dark Mode", advanced photo and camera features, the "Sign In with Apple" tool and an all-new Apple Maps experience.

Dark Mode is a new dark colour scheme that works across native apps to deliver a great viewing experience especially in low-light conditions.

Dark Mode is available to third-party app developers for integration into their own apps and can be scheduled to turn on automatically at sunset or at a certain time.

In iOS 13, most photo editing tools are now available for video editing, making it possible to rotate, crop or apply filters right within the Photos app.

"We're excited for customers to experience what's coming to iPhone this fall and can't wait for them to see how great everything looks in Dark Mode," said Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering.

"Sign In with Apple" makes it easy for users to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID and has two-factor authentication built in for an added layer of security.

Apple also announced to deliver a new Maps experience with broader road coverage, better pedestrian data, more precise addresses and more detailed landcover.

The new map is available now in select cities and states, and will roll out across the US by the end of 2019 and to more countries in 2020, announced the company.

New iOS 13 features will be available this fall as a free software update.

Ending a six-year drought for creative professionals, Apple introduced the all-new Mac Pro and unveiled Apple "Pro Display XDR", touted as the world's best pro display.

The Mac Pro can run three streams of 8K video and 12 streams of 4K video in real time, virtually eliminating proxy workflows.

It features workstation-class Xeon processors up to 28 cores, a high-performance memory system with a massive 1.5 TB capacity, eight PCIe expansion slots and a graphics architecture featuring the world's most powerful graphics card.

Pro Display XDR features a massive 32-inch Retina 6K display, an extreme 1,600 nits of peak brightness, an incredible 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a super-wide viewing angle.

"Pro Display XDR is the world's best pro display and the perfect companion to the all-new Mac Pro," said Phil Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.

The new Mac Pro that supports up to six displays for a breathtaking 120 million pixels would be available in the fall.

Giving iPad users new capabilities and intuitive features, Apple also introduced a brand new iPadOS that is built on the same foundation as its iOS.

With iPadOS, users would be able to work with apps in multiple windows, see more information on a redesigned Home screen and more natural ways to use Apple Pencil.

iPadOS with Dark Mode feature will be available this fall as a free software update for iPad Air 2 and later, all iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation and iPad mini 4.

The company also previewed watchOS 6, which empowers Apple Watch users to better manage their health and fitness, and gives access to dynamic new watch faces and the App Store directly on Apple Watch.

Giving its content streaming dreams new wings, Apple also previewed tvOS 13, the operating system that makes Apple TV 4K a personalised entertainment device for enjoying TV shows, movies, music, photos, games and apps.

The company also previewed macOS "Catalina" which is replacing iTunes with its popular entertainment apps -- Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and the Apple TV app.
